De onbegrepen Lancia Kappa Coupé: een geflopt model

In the early 1990s, Lancia faced a decline, and its lineup was based on Fiat platforms, leading some brand enthusiasts to feel that the soul of the company was lost in the products. However, there were still some efforts to revitalize the brand. In 1994, Lancia aimed to replace the Thema with the Kappa, a worthy flagship model. The Kappa was offered in three body types: Sedan, Estate, and Coupe.

In 1996, at the Turin Motor Show, Lancia unveiled a coupe version of the Kappa. The coupe had a more appealing appearance with its two-door design, but it still retained its characteristic strong lines. The interior offered ample space and featured high-quality materials. Lancia reserved its best engines for the Kappa, including a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo with 205 hp, a 2.4-liter five-cylinder with 175 hp, and a 3.0-liter V6 with 204 hp, which was of Alfa Romeo origin.

Despite the quality of the engine and luxurious interior with leather and wood trim, the Kappa coupe did not receive widespread appeal. In 1998, Lancia made a final attempt to reposition the model, but the aesthetics remained mostly unchanged. However, the four-cylinder engine was replaced with a more powerful 220 hp five-cylinder turbo.

In 2000, Lancia decided to discontinue the Kappa coupe, a year before the rest of the Kappa lineup. Only a limited number of 3,620 units were produced. Today, the Kappa coupe has become a reliable and enjoyable classic car, especially the five-cylinder turbo version, which is now the rarest. Prices for these models in the used car market vary between 4,000 and 6,000 euros, depending on the specific engine and condition of the vehicle.
